I'm basically in love with data. Or, rather, the knowledge we can extract from it. And I like to analyze how to best disseminate that knowledge. I hold a M.Sc in Sociology and a MA in Historical Social Enquiry. I like to call myself a historical development sociologist. Not sure that's better, though.
I work as Big Data Analytics Strategist at UN Global Pulse and volunteer as Head of Communication & Analysis at the youth-empowerment-through-music-NGO Turning Tables.
That's pretty much it, really. Oh, and I'm based in Brooklyn, New York.

Currently working on analyzing and visualizing the global conversation about the post-2015 process through partnerships with private sector analytics companies, data access partners, data visualization partners and UN agencies.
Turning Tables is a NGO that focus on the inclusion of young refugees and street children in the global youth culture of DJ-ing, the creation of electronic music, and having a voice through internet radio. As Head of Communication & Analysis, I am responsible for all communication efforts, internal as external, for volunteer coordination, and some on-the-ground training of trainers. My primary goal is to strengthen the connections between the users of the Turntable Labs around the world in order to create cross-cultural understanding and inspiration.
Tasks include:
* Plan, coordinate and manage content for the myUNFPA platform; including conceptualizing, writing, editing, coordinating and proofreading online content.
* Promote and build capacity of users to engage with myUNFPA through the creation of communication and training materials, including print and multimedia materials and on-site trainings.
* Draft, coordinate and contribute to the specifications of various elements of myUNFPA for further development.
* Conduct user testing of new myUNFPA sections.
* Respond to user feedback and provide user support on all aspects of the myUNFPA platform. Report technical issues to MIS and communicate improvements to end-users.
In the Bureau for Crisis Prevention & Recovery tasks were:
* Undertake mapping of current technologies and applications with potential for application in the fields of crisis prevention and recovery.
* Provide support to a research project on technologies for conflict prevention commissioned by UNDP/BCPR in collaboration with IPI and USAID.
* Provide support and background research for development of a UNDP Guidance Note on Technology for Collaborative Conflict Prevention by UNDP BCPR and BDP.
* Provide technical advice and project management support to the development of an online platform for the global initiative, Infrastructures for Peace.
* Contribute to the development of new UNDP knowledge products and tools in areas relevant for conflict prevention work
Facilitation of the full process from planning over budgeting, team coordination, partner communication, implementation, and the monitoring and evaluation of both small and large projects.
Main responsibilities were
* Research and analysis (data analysis, web analytics, surveys, focus interviews, telephone interviews, ethnographic field studies, mental models, expert analyses, and workshops)
* Social Media and Knowledge Sharing Tools (wikis, blogs, screencasts, etc.)
* Design of complex data solutions
Additionally, I have been responsible for strategy, concept and at times implementation.
A three month fixed-term assignment with the task of building a knowledge management strategy for ActionAid Mozambique including workflow analysis, introduction to information sharing technologies and knowledge management techniques. The assignment consisted of four deliverables: 1) KM Strategy, 2) KM Phase 1 Concept, 3) Training of Trainers, and 4) Implementation in existing Sharepoint solution.
As freelance consultant, I worked in varying fields for various customers. For example:
UN Women, Mozambique: Short assignment to set up an online capacity assessment survey for local partners using the SurveyMonkey software.
Danish Red Cross, Mozambique: Wrote a Mozambique country profile.
Lead on the Danish part of the WordPress internationalization project and thereby responsible for the Danish version of the CMS, WordPress. I also developed and managed a community of more than 700 active users and supervised 5 other translators and community helpers and arranged quarterly mini conferences or meetings.
I helped build a community platform around Roskilde Festival where we activated the huge community around the 125,000 people that each year visit festival. As Head of Community I supervised 7 other volunteer writers and community supporters and also functioned as editor of the blogs and online forum.
While finishing my 2nd Master degree, worked full time as researcher and data analyst, responsible for an evidence based research project on recidivism (relapse into crime) among alcoholics. Primarily based on field interviews and extensive longitudinal statistical data. Gained thorough knowledge of equal access to rights, judicial practices and criminological theories.
Responsible for administration of e-learning courses, administration of Danida’s knowledge sharing network now called Danida DevForum, course preparation, administration and evaluation in all of Danida’s areas including Human Rights, Aid Modalities, UN Pre-departure Courses, SWAp, Poverty Reduction Strategies, Logistical Framework Approach and Budgeting, and general website administration. Also redesigned brochures and participated in restructuring the archive and documentation system, thereby enhancing both internal and external knowledge sharing practices.
In a research project on recidivism among offenders living in hostels run by the Danish Prison and Probation Service, I was responsible for all quantitative material and drafted the data analyses.
I assisted making a questionnaire and analysed the resulting data using SPSS.
Analysed several sets of data using SPSS. Additionally, I taught two of the teachers the basics of SPSS.
Assistant teacher in the course, ”Quantitative Methods and Statistics”. Main responsibilities were the facilitation of hands-on training in SPSS and applied statistics seminars. The course was the main part of the 5th semester in sociology at Aalborg University.
As a part of the youth-to-youth team behind “Projekt Vognen”, I worked as a drugs, sexuality and family adviser outside the busiest clubs in the summer towns of Northern Jutland, Denmark, targeting adolescents with self-acknowledged problems or questions.
